Wakefield

If you live south of Wakefield, changes to services that are soon to be consulted on might affect you.

These are critical care for people who have had a stroke and children's surgery and anaesthesia services.

You could go to either Pinderfields Hospital or Barnsley Hospital if you needed care and treatment for children's surgery or stroke services. The reviews underway only affect what happens if you go to Barnsley Hospital. A review of how health services are provided in the Wakefield district took place in your area in 2013 called Meeting the Challenge, it listened to what people wanted and how care might be provided in the future.

Meeting the Challenge resulted in a focus on care outside hospital and more joined up care for patients who do need hospital care. Pinderfields Hospital became the major centre for inpatient emergency medicine, acute and complex surgery, critical care, inpatient children’s services and consultant-led births. Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals became centres for planned care, with increased diagnostics and non-complex operations.

The services being reviewed in Working Together may impact on people who live in the south west area of Wakefield.
